Initially worked on Saipems first pilot inspections using phased array on 12 diameter thin wall pipelines in the Congo and the Ivory Coast .I was involved in all the initial setups, delay laws, calibration block verifications and velocity checks for the blue stream project. This was followed by a stringent DNV validation process. Worked as a supervisor on the J lay and S Lay Submarine line from Russia to Turkey, the Quad joint yard in Turkey and the Tie ins in Russia. Passed RTD Pipe-Wizard level II exam and completed the PipeWizard maintenance course.

I was employed as a senior technologist working for the UK office, the work that I carried out is predominantly for the nuclear industry in Sweden and Lithuania. The UK office s time is split between development work and on site jobs.

The development work includes looking at Phased Array, EMATS, piezo composite probes. Time of Flight Diffraction techniques, Austenitic materials with a variety of long wave and mode conversion techniques TRL s, Tandem, Slics and Amdata etc.
The phased array technique was evaluated using the Focus Phased Array system and the PASS Phased Array Simulation Software. The evaluation covered beam focusing using different delay laws with both sectoral and linear scanning techniques to assess the achievable coverage, detection and sizing and scanning limitations of the technique. Usable angles and the amount of active elements used in a delay law were observed to reduce the effect of Side lobes and grating lobes

Another part of our remit is to find solutions to problem areas which included specifying equipment and probes some of which were built in house as 1 off s write and validate new procedures. The equipments used for data collection was

primarily RD-tech equipment and included TomoScan, the TomoScan SV, Focus Phased Array system and the TC5700. The analysis software used was PASS Phased Array Simulation Software, Multiview and TomoView.

Due to lack of orders ABB TRC merged the UK office with CATS International which is a small division of Cooperheat.

employed as an applications engineer. My role was to complete inspections using Sonomatics automated UT equipment. The inspections were varied in nature and included. Petrochem on-shore and off shore. Nuclear, Power generation Subsea and submarine inspections. The actual inspections and equipment were diverse using pulse echo, single and multi channel. Corrosion mapping and Time of Flight Diffraction Techniques to look for a variety of problems in feritic and austenitic materials which included hydrogen damage, preferential root erosion, weld inspection of butt and T joints, ligament cracking etc.

During International trips which were frequent Australian, New Zealand, South Africa, South America and Europe, I was expected to perform demonstrations of various systems and ultrasonic techniques.

For the last 2 years with AEA Sonomatic I was involved with power generation inspections and was a member of a team developing techniques and manipulators for Power generation applications, for example IGSCC on turbine disc bores and keyways, boresonics, retaining rings and type IV cracking.
