I worked for Curt Bean lumber Co. in Glenwood AR. like I started as a Millwright Helper and left as a class A Millwright
Job duties - As a millwright helper some of my duties were to show up early and fuel the welding trucks and make
sure that the were started and ready for the day .I done this with the other equipment that we used like a
Backhoe, Man-lift, a 35 ton crane. During this time the company was constructing a Boiler and a Power Generator .I
was fortunate enough to be working on that project from start to finish. During the construction phase of this project I
assisted with the layout and bolt up of the main building .I assisted with the insulating and coving of the building
like sheet metal .I fitted pipe for the pipe welders and preformed structural welding myself .I assisted in the
installation of 7.5meg. Generator, lining it up in the bearings which are oil cooled and lined with Babbitt, piping in all
the hydraulic lines from the hydraulic tank, pressure gauges, water traps, filters, bleed off valves, flow control valves
and blocks, pressure valves, electric valves and hydraulic hoses. After all of the initial installation I pulled all of the
preventive maintenance for the purpose of training new hires and filling in when someone went on vacation .I also
performed work on the boilers .I installed water purifiers, feed water pumps, ID fans, rolling grates in the burn boxes
using laser equipment and old school piano wire, calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, along all the bearings, belts
chains and the pneumatics that it took to turn all of these .I was responsible for greasing this equipment
everyday .I helped install streamlines, heat exchangers, cooling towers, fuel bins, conveyer system I maintenance
all of these regularly .I assisted in the whole project of building a dry kiln from the ground up. The forming of the
Foundation to the pouring and finishing of it to the erection of the building. Welding in streamlines and water traps
Installing cooling fans, electric motors, gear boxes, shafts, bearings and sprinkler systems. During this project I was
Promoted to a Class C Millwright .I stayed a Class C Millwright for 1 like 1 year and was promoted to a Class B
Millwright I stayed at a Class B Millwright for 1 like 1 year and was promoted to a Class A millwright I stayed as a
Class A Millwright for 6 like 6 years. During this time I installed several pieces of equipment.
like 1 Williams Hammer Hog like 2 Mcgehee Strapping machine like 3 Hi Technology Curve Gang saw like 4 Hi Technology Edger like 5 COMACT Double Length in feed sharp chain like 6 COMACT Log Pusher like 7 PSI Log Merchandiser like 8 Nicholson Debarker like 9 MOCO Lumber Stacker like 10 Precision Log Chipper
On each and every 1 of these pieces of equipment there are numerous hydraulic hoses, valves, gauges and cylinders that I am knowledgeable in. The maintenance on these machines include oiling all of the chains, and gear boxes, greasing all of the fittings, changing out any wore out or broken parts, trouble shooting all problems from mechanical to hydraulic. This includes changing hoses, filters, cylinders, fittings, making hoses, 2 wire to 4 wire with fittings ranging from 4 to 36. Being able to determine a solution to problem that is out of the ordinary. Keeping an
accurate log of all maintenance performed on the equipment. Being certain that all the maintenance is done on each
and every machine and moving parts, chains, bearings, hoses, valves, cylinders, belts all are kept in service
with the manufactures suggested run time. Besides changing parts I was was expected to rebuild the old ones.
I have rebuilt the following SM Cyclo - gear box, Planet Gear - gear boxes, Atlas Cylinders, Hanna Cylinders, Parker
Cylinders, Vickers MK 55 Valves, Hydraulic pumps, Peerless water pumps replacing packing glands, bearings and impellers.
For the last 3 like 3 years of my employment with Curt Bean Lumber Co .I was a trainer for new Millwrights.
I worked daily without supervision. The responsibilities that I had are as follows To make sure that the mill kept
running at all times. Answer any and all maintenance calls without delay, to fix the problem correctly in a timely
fashion whether it be mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic. So to be honest trouble shooting is something
that I am accustom to .I was evaluated on my performance and work regularly .I was evaluated on how well the
new hire millwrights performed after their training. The results were satisfactory .I never received any bad
marks or write ups during my employment with this company. The reason I left this company was due to a company
wide layoff and closure of the mill.
