SAS programmer with MVS, DB2 and COBOL on a team developing a cohort Risk Adjuster interface with SAS modules. The system collected extracted patient demographic and diagnostic claim information for the SAS model components that computed what the risk adjustment factors for Medicare and Medicaid payments should be per federal guidelines. The project progressed through different levels of software testing from unit testing, integration and system testing through acceptance testing and installation.

Programmer Analyst. Supported the production environment and developed mainframe and LAN applications serving Sears Credit Collection Strategy department. The credit collection department was involved in telemarketing collections and remediation of accounts in varying degrees of delinquency. The primary applications being supported searched private and proprietary databases for delinquent accounts, alternate telephone numbers and address information and applied the new data as updates to customer databases through data entry programs written in Visual Basic, through CICS transactions, Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.

Batch files were transmitted using FTP between Sears and vendor sites for customer database updates and processed through LAN based SAS PC and daily batch mainframe programs.

The connection to the mainframe was through IRMA and NETWARE using DELL 486 SX 33 MHz PCs, WINDOWS 3.1. The batch COBOL programs were CAPEX optimized, standard IBM COBOL and COBOL II. The client companys name changed from Corning Clinical Labs to Quest Diagnostics. The majority of the work at the beginning of this project involved changing the company name on external and internal reports produced by accounts receivable applications. After the completion of name changes the responsibilities were split between maintaining client specific claims processing batch and online applications, producing ad hoc reports and special projects. Responsible for programming, testing, user acceptance and implementation.

The application was a combination of programs that were written in COBOL II, DB2, CLIST, Dialog Manager, Lotus 123 Spread Sheets and MS DOS batch programs on BANYAN Vines network.

DP Consultant. The technical aspects of this position started with maintaining several job streams. These jobs streams had to be changed regularly, depending upon the frequency they were requested. Developed CLIST applications to automate the required changes. The automation effectively reduced hours of maintenance to minutes. Automating the manual tasks freed up resources to allow growth of the position to include developing and enhancing ad hoc reports and ISPF dialogs. The dialog built JCL based on different variables entered from a panel. Enhancements to dialog enabled a wider variety of reports and analysis to be obtained. The reports were produced by a combination of SORT, COBOL and SAS programs.

Most the assignments involved COBOL and COBOL II in a large IBM MVS/XA or MVS/ESA environment. Modified claims and billing applications and test IMS/DLI user written input-output for the health insurance client. Other assignments involved testing IMS/DLI I/O modules written in COBOL II for a large pharmacy insurance claims database. All of the IMS interfaces in the batch billing system were replaced when the database was restructured. Claims were transmitted to the data center via NDM that triggered batch billing jobs scheduled for the incoming file. Responsible for programming, testing, user acceptance and implementation.
